Modulation In The Modern World

165 0

Communication has become an effortless process in this present world. The information to be communicated happens through digital platforms. The transfer of information in any form like audio, video, or text takes place in the form of electrical signals. Several processes happen while sending the signal from the transmitter to receiving the signal from a receiver. A process called modulation comes into the picture and is the chief process for the transmission of the signal without any disturbance.

In the process of modulation, the message signal frequency is raised to a certain range so that the signal becomes more useful for the transmission. Modulation is the process of varying one or more characteristics of a carrier signal that typically contains information. Modulation makes the signal more favorable to transmit.

Modulation plays a key role in the communication system and is mainly used to encode information. Modulation is an essential process since it is the way for making the signal more efficient for transmitting. It makes the signal perfect for the low-noise data reception irrespective of the distance.

Modulation can be done in three types:
1. Amplitude modulation
2. Frequency modulation
3. Phase modulation

Pulse amplitude modulation is the process in which the amplitude of the pulse carrier wave varies proportionally to the instantaneous amplitude of the message signal. Pulse amplitude modulation is mostly used in digital data transmission with non-baseband applications.

Pulse amplitude modulation are two types:
1. Single polarity PAM
2. Double polarity PAM

Pulse amplitude modulation is shown below in the figure:

Pulse amplitude modulation technique is employed in the non-based modulating transmission of digital data. It is also used in the applications replaced by pulse-code modulation and pulse-position modulation. Particularly all phone modems which are faster than 300 bit/s use quadrature amplitude modulation process.
Some of the advantages of using the Pulse amplitude modulation technique are:
● Pulse amplitude modulation process enables the efficient transmission of data in a comparatively faster way using conventional copper wires.
● PAM is the simplest form of modulation.
● The frequency modulations available are endless; consequently, Pulse amplitude modulation formulas can be developed continually to provide increased data throughput over current networks.
